Google Pixel case study: phygital experience for retail

In this article, we get back to the Google Pixel retail experience specially designed for ISE 2024 and which aroused the greatest interest among visitors.

Now a member of the Google Partners program, Touchify wanted to highlight its compatibility with ChromeOS, an operating system truly adapted for digital signage and interactive projects.

Display serves phygital experience

By materializing several universes representative of its target markets, Touchify made it possible to live digital experiences as close as possible to reality. The objective was to discover, through fun devices, a range of projects carried out using the integrated design studio.

Among these universes, retail was particularly well represented thanks to the creation of a shop to proudly spotlight an interactive POS featuring the Google Pixel range.

Visitors could discover Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones as well as Pixel Watch 2. To encourage exploration beyond the simple physical products manipulation, the display communicated with screens for a full phygital experience!

Smartphones “connected” to screens

The operation of the experience is quite simple: when you grab one of the products, the associated content is displayed simultaneously on the screens - digital signage on the upper monitor and interactive experience on the lower touch screen.

Digital signage...

The purpose of digital signage is to introduce commercial information of the products in the form of playlists. Simple and effective!

and interactivity!

The interactive screen aims to push the cursor of the immersion in the Google Pixel universe, allowing visitors to be actor of their discovery: technical characteristics, comparison of products, 3D visualization, availability colors...

Application

When we talk about design, we always come back to the cornerstone of Touchify software: the no-code integrated design studio! It allows to imagine interactive experiences and digital signage projects in a single platform.

The Google experience is not an exception of this rule: entirely created into the Touchify studio, it offers a complete discovery device of the Pixel range.

Touchify Analytics is also activated to analyze visitor behavior and visualize valuable data: product encouraging commitment, visualization of the most viewed pages, analysis of interactions...

Material

For digital signage, the choice was made on a 32" LED screen from a professional riiyamaange. Its 450 cd/m² high-brightness slab is perfect for optimal readability in all internal lighting conditions.

This screen and associated with a Chromebox Commercial 3 from AOPEN. In addition to its compactness, the Chromebox Commercial range is renowned for supporting applications operating in demanding environments: ignition 24/24 and 7/7, high ambient temperature... It is thus perfectly adapted to digital signage projects and interactive kiosks.

For the interactive display, the choice was made on a 15.6" UPERFECT screen installed in front of the display. The goal was to enhance the Player Chrome OS Flex and thus prove that it can easily find its place on any type of hardware, in this case a mini PC under Windows.

What about the interaction?

Nexmosphere sensors were naturally chosen to communicate products and screens.

If the good practice is generally to use push-up sensors, guaranteeing system reliability and durability, we had here a constraint: do not modify the display!

Our technical teams have used a subtle «hack» here: use distance sensors that are easier to integrate and allow the same behavior. All of this is natively integrated into the Touchify studio.

ChromeOS, an innovative system for digital signage and interactive projects

Light and fast

Cloud-based, this operating system is perfectly suited for display projects running on the same model. Minimalist, it requires only an x64 processor, 4GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

Reinforced security

ChromeOS runs on the sandbox system: software components are isolated from the operating system. By blocking executables and preventing any applications or extensions from changing the OS, security is greatly enhanced.

Low maintenance

The LTC version (long-term support) and remote updates help to limit downtime. ChromeOS aims to minimize maintenance needs while ensuring system reliability

Simplified administration

ChromeOS allows you to remotely monitor, control and administer the entire fleet of your customers. The simplified takeover eliminates the use of third-party solutions. And the icing on the cake: alerts are automatic!

When « zero touch » configuration lead the supply chain revolution

Beyond the advantages mentioned above, the major innovation of ChromeOS probably lies in its contactless configuration, called «zero touch»: it allows remote commissioning that really simplifies operation for audiovisual professionals.

Administration Google ChromeOS

How it works?

  1. The hardware integrator or reseller generates a registration token directly in their Google admin console.
  2. They order ChromeOS compatible hardware from an authorized wholesaler and provide the registration token for integration into the device.
  3. The material is sent directly to the end-user. During the first internet connection, the device is registered and configured automatically. Magic!
